Microsoft's CES Windows Phone speed tests may hit stores

Briefly posted videos show local challenges

At the recent CES show, Microsoft held a "Smoked By Windows Phone" event to demonstrate the speed of its latest OS for mobile devices. During the event, the company challenged participants to see if they could use their Android or iOS device and beat a Windows Phone at taking a photo and uploading it. It now appears from videos spotted by WPCentral that Microsoft may be taking the challenge from the show floor to stores.

For a brief time today, two videos appeared on YouTube showing "Brian," who ostensibly worked for Microsoft, reproducing the challenge in local carrier retail stores. In this latest challenger, Brian offered store representatives a gift card if they beat him at taking a picture and uploading it to Facebook, In both videos, Brian was shown winning, demonstrating how fast Windows Phone is compared to Android hardware.

The videos have now been removed from YouTube, probably because Microsoft didn't appreciate someone falsely or unofficially using its name in this way without prior authorization. However, it could signal a possible future campaign for the company to tout its OS.

Windows Phone revolves less around apps and more around the concepts of hubs, or portals that can handle the roles of multiple apps. The People Hub, for example, can check Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter updates along with handling contacts.
