Pentax intros PS camera with vertical shutter

Pentax has slipped out the Optio VS20 camera with a second, vertical shutter. The new vertical shutter headlines the model’s list of features offering and users the ability to more easily take portrait oriented pictures when changing the camera orientation using its second shutter button. The camera also includes a night snap mode allowing the capture of more vibrant images with low blur and noise in low light settings.

The compact camera utilizes a 16-megapixel CCD sensor that uses mechanical image stabilization that combines with software to deliver reduced blur when shooting video as well. The Optio VS20 also includes a large 3-inch viewfinder and also includes on-board digital camera effects including fish-eye, sketch and stretch filters.

The VS20 will also shoot video in 720p at 30fps, while it also incorporates a 20x optical zoom lens (equivalent to 28-560mm). To make shooting still and video user friendly, Pentax has also built-in several auto-shooting modes befitting a point-and-shoot camera.

The Pentax Optio VS20 will be available in black and white on the company’s webstore for $250 in February.

    Really...

How does the camera achieve this
    Square sensor?
    Rotating sensor?
Vertical crop of the horizontal image?

Seems to me that you do have to change the cameras orientation, but the addition of a 2nd shutter button saves the user from weird wrist contortions or elbows in the air
Great idea taken from the slr world, but would have been smarter to go with the square sensor since this camera is not really the right size or shape to grip comfortably in the vertical orientation
(I've been begging for a decent square sensor digital for years, c'mon somebody)
