iPhone more common tool than Mac

Over a fifth of information workers worldwide, about 21 percent, are using at least one Apple product for work, a new Forrester Research poll suggests. The group asked 10,000 workers spread across 17 different countries, the selection criteria being that each person had to use a computer or "smart" device for work at least an hour a day. In detail, 15 percent used one Apple product, while 5 percent used two, and just 1 percent used three.

The most likely tool was an iPhone, chosen by 11 percent in the survey, versus 9 percent for iPads and 8 percent for Macs. The survey also found that while wealthier workers were more likely to use Apple products, managers and executives being twice as likely, younger workers were twice as likely to use Apple gear as older people. Adoption of Apple products was almost 17 percent among people making less than $12,000 per year.

Enterprise adoption of Macs is said to be improving as well. Based on a survey of 3,300 IT "decision makers," this rose from 36 percent in 2010 to 46 percent in 2011. The people also indicated that corporations intend a 52 percent increase in the number of Macs issued in 2012.
