Napster in UK, Germany bought out by Rhapsody

Rhapsody, the streaming music subscription service, announced on Thursday that it has bought Napster assets in Germany and the UK. The company also bought Napster's business in the US before laying off the majority of those employees. Rhapsody promises to keep the European employees on, however, and the Napster name there will remain untouched.

Prices will stay the same, but subscribers will need to move over to the Rhapsody system in March.

With the entrance into the market, Rhapsody may be looking to challenge Spotify as the number one music service in the UK, though Spotify doesn't yet have a presence in Germany. In Germany, Napster is believed to have a 70 percent share and could hand Rhapsody a rare, immediate market share lead.

    Napster, Rhapsody

I'm curious what's it going to be like moving to the rhapsody platform in march.. I personally don'T see it as a tragedy like others do..I'm pretty sure some good things are gonna come out of it..Anyway, I am happy they're at least keeping the brand name and music library.

Oh, I also understood they're going to remove the downloading option too..apparently not many people were using it. I wasn't either actually..I'd much rather record music than download it (especially on Rhapsody, where you have to download Real Player)..Anyway, this is a good way to record streaming music from Napster/Rhapsody, if there's anyone interested: http://audials.com/en/how_to_rip_record_internet_radios/rhapsody.html. Saves you both time and money.
