Chairman warns of continued difficulties
Nokia chairman Jorma Ollila has warned that the company's ongoing strategy shift will cut into its 2012 financial results. The executive remains optimistic that the decision to transition to Microsoft's Windows Phone platform will enable the company to better compete with the iPhone and Android smartphones, however he cautions that the process will take more time.
"For a significant part of the year the transition will be seen in the results," Ollila told Finnish television broadcaster YLE in an interview. "None of the operating systems have taken off quickly. It will take time, as we have seen, and as was expected."
The executive suggests three operating systems will hold dominant positions "in the near future," and Nokia has a "very good chance" to be the strong manufacturer behind Windows Phone.
The company recently claimed that its early Windows Phone sales have reached beyond a million units, driven by the Lumia 710 and Lumia 800, though earnings were still 73 percent below the same quarter from the previous year.
