Samsung demos formula for Galaxy Tab 11.6 in advan

Samsung has given a technology preview of how it will answer the third-generation iPad with the now more probable Galaxy Tab 11.6. The abstract demo shown to Phone Arena combined the extremely sharp 2560x1600 LCD with the upcoming 2GHz Exynos 5250 chip. The test both proved that the resolution was possible on new hardware and touted the efficiency of the smaller 32 nanometer chip.

When comparing equivalent architectures, like the 32nm Exynos 4212 versus its 45nm Exynos 4210 ancestor, the chip drew 36 percent less power overall, even when being clocked higher at 1.5GHz to the 1.2GHz of the older, Galaxy S II-based chip. It's not clear how much more the 5250 would consume with its considerably higher speed and new architecture, but it may mitigate the increase.

A new Galaxy Tab based on the chip is rumored to show as soon as Mobile World Congress at the end of the month. The preview shows that Samsung has already planned for awhile to have an extremely high-resolution tablet, although it may not arrive before Apple's. The iPad 3 is suspected of having a 2048x1536 display and could be available in March. Samsung has already said it doesn't plan to start on volume production of the Exynos 5250 until the spring, which could see it ship months later.

The event also gave an opportunity to show gaming using ultra-wideband (UWB) with Wireless USB. Although it's not certain to be a component of future tablets, it could lead to effectively lag-free wireless video out.
