Bizarre Taiwanese ad depicts Jobs using Android in afterlife

Taiwan company does strange take on the late Jobs

A bizarre commercial has surfaced from Taiwan promoting a new Android tablet showing Taiwanese impersonator taking on the trademark Steve Jobs black turtleneck and blue jeans look. In the ad, embedded below, the character is equipped with angel wings and a halo promoting the new tablet on stage with a slideshow in the background, much as Jobs’ would have in launching a new Apple product. It concludes with the Jobs-like character saying ‘Thank God I finally get to play with other tablets.’

The ad is likely to capture the attention of Cupertino’s lawyers who recently moved to stop the release of a Steve Jobs action figure. An Action Electronics spokesperson opted for an equally strange justification for the direct play on the late Apple founder, who famously derided Android as ‘shit.’

‘Steve Jobs always promoted things that were good for people, Apple products, so his image can also promote other things that are good,’ said Chelsea Chen.

‘We have no choice but to use Android, we can't use iOS,’ she added.

The ad has drawn a number of stinging criticisms from Apple fans who call variously call it ‘distasteful,’ and ‘disgusting.’ Whether one deems it harmless, or disrespectful, it has certainly had the effect of raising the profile of an otherwise forgettable product. [via Reuters]

    Wow, that's tasteless

Hope they're getting their butt sued off. Then again, it's Taiwan, so they probably can't be touched. Still, it's bad karma... they'll pay for it in their own afterlife.

    Trash

An advert like that tells you everything you need to know about the standards and quality of the manufacturer. If that's how they want to be seen, heaven knows the quality of work they put into the actual products. As said above - they'll get what they deserve - and in this life too.

It's a great add... is Jobs a God or what? It's actually funny.. and btw Taiwan has way less people depending from the government like we do...

    rolling....

I'm not sure if they were looking for controversy or just completely insensitive to Job's family and friends with this ad. I guess this confirms any doubt that Android is a clone at best and its vendors are not only unveiled but run the gambit of rip off artist to lunatics.

    h***?

I don't get it. Why is this Jobs look-a-like in h***? What has he done to deserve this punishment?

Oh, I get it. Maybe they are using a Jobs look-a-like to advertise iOS look-a-like.

    Jobs look-a-like?

Dress-a-like, maybe. I always thought there was more reverence for the dead in that culture.

    You know, I don't

think the reaction would/will be the same from all of you folk, for a dead Balmer parody. Call me crazy.

Of course not. Because, however grotesque you would make this "dead Ballmer parody", it would still seem tame compared to his real, alive self.

Wonder why there aren't many Ballmer parodies? Exactly: you can't get more over-the-top than the original.

    Wow

Um. Wow. Disrespectful at the very least.
