Release adds shake to awake and Wi-Fi configuring

Motorola has teased about what new features will be coming in its next software update for its MOTOACTV exercise device. The company has blogged that it soon will be adding the ability to wake the display from sleep mode with a wrist flick. It should also be supporting over 40 new activities.

The new activities supported include Pilates, yoga, dancing and the martial arts. Motorola is also adding the ability to set up the Wi-Fi connection directly. Previously, a user would have to set up the connection using a computer.

The Training Portal is being improved so owners can host their own competitions online. Motorola has told users that the update should be available around March 7.

The MOTOACTV launched in October. Although superficially looking like an iPod nano, it's an exercise monitor in the form factor of a large wristwatch. It incorporates a 1.6-inch touchscreen, a GPS receiver, a built-in MP3 player. Since release, it has had multiple updates that improve the battery life and improve features.
