Telus goes all-in on Optik console and mobile
Telus' Optik IPTV service got much more control over non-traditional viewing on Tuesday. Optik TV for Xbox 360 takes advantage of the fall Xbox 360 Dashboard update to use the console as the set-top box, including for remote DVR viewing if there's a traditional DVR on the same network. The support includes full Kinect motion control.
Mobile users can also watch their TV from a distance with Optik on the go. The add-on lets subscribers watch without having to tie themselves to a TV or the local network. Both a web app, as well as as iOS (App Store) and Android (Market) apps, let users watch as long as they're in Canada and on a fast-enough connection.
The app needs at least an iPhone 3GS, a third-generation iPod touch, or any iPad on Apple's platform. Android use is officially limited to Samsung's Fascinate 4G, Galaxy S II, and Galaxy Tab 10.1, as well as the HTC Desire HD and tablets like the Motorola Xoom and Sony Tablet S. Channel access is limited but does include HBO Canada, Movie Central, Super Channel, YTV and other channels.
