MIUI 4 gives Kindle Fire users a taste of ICS

MIUI 4 has arrived for the Kindle Fire. The custom UI gives users an iOS-like interface, however retains the much improved Ice Cream Sandwich experience. However, in order to install the ROM Kindle Fire users will need to root their device and flash the new ROM, which will remove any trace of the tight Amazon integration in the standard Kindle OS.

The MIUI 4 ROM interface for the Kindle Fire differs somewhat from the smartphone version, as the video embedded below shows. However, it continues to package a number of MIUI-specific apps such as the custom file manager and the backup utility. Users will retain access to the Amazon Appstore, but will gain access to the Android Market.

Users who are keen to give the custom ROM a try can visit the MIUI website. While it is fundamentally stable, tethering over USB does not work, nor does hardware accelerated graphics, static wallpaper or themes. [via Phandroid]
