Samsung files for Galaxy Camera trademark

Samsung may apply its Galaxy smartphone branding to a dedicated camera if a recent trademark filing with the USPTO is any indication. The "Galaxy Camera" name it's seeking would likely involve an Android-powered compact digital camera with a significantly larger lens, perhaps similar to the Polaroid SC1630 we had a chance to check out at CES. The filing falls under the "Cameras and Camcorders" section of the patent office and therefore wouldn't be a phone.

Unfortunately, no other information about the potentially upcoming hardware is known, and the trademark filing simply means it may never actually arrive, or take years to do so. An Android-powered camera or camcorder could easily give users many options for wireless sharing and other options, with the camera more than likely sporting Wi-Fi connections. Apps could also be used to enhance the image or video capturing experience during or after they are taken. [via SammyHub]
