BlackBerry 10 may borrow from iOS, Android
New shots intercepted from a BlackBerry 10 ad briefing may have given some of the first detailed visuals of the OS. The CrackBerry images showed a device that at once had a shrunken parallel to the PlayBook interface but with traces of similarities to other platforms. It would use an always-up grid of all apps, like the iPhone, but have home screen widgets similar to, if more organized than, Android.
It would carry over the unified messaging inbox from PlayBook 2.0 and would borrow some of the more elegant features, such as a stylized contact view. Video chat would appear to be shipping from the start and put RIM on par with Apple and Google. Looks at the BlackBerry London have already shown a new media player.
The new OS is inherently linked to new hardware and won't be available until later in 2012, when the London is expected to ship. RIM's future depends on the new platform and is currently leaving it in a risky position where it's required to coast on its last legacy platform, BlackBerry 7.
