Rumors point to February 21

RIM is rumored to be preparing its PlayBook OS 2 update to arrive early next week. The company has yet to make an official announcement narrowing down the time frame, however unnamed sources have told N4BB the major update is scheduled to begin rolling out on February 21.

The update, which was recently previewed at CES, brings a broad range of improvements to the native e-mail, contact and calendar utilities. The interface has been revamped with a pane layout and folders for organizing apps by category.

Users will also be able to take advantage of Android apps, which will be offered through RIM's own app portal. The company has been giving away free PlayBooks to developers who submit apps for verification and repackaging ahead of the OS update.
