Exact release date remains unconfirmed
RIM has reportedly reiterated its commitment to launching the PlayBook 2.0 OS update sometime later this month. In an interview with PCMag, BlackBerry senior brand manager Jeff Gadway promised that the release is coming "very soon," however he failed to provide a specific launch date.
The first major update to RIM's tablet OS will bring a wide range of new features, including a redesigned interface and improvements to the core utilities for e-mail, messaging and calendar. Users will also be able to take advantage of a limited selection of Android apps that will be available through the BlackBerry App World.
Gadway also noted that the company is still "committed to a 4G PlayBook, and 2.0 is a large part of getting 4G right." The company has denied rumors of new hardware in the near future, however potential buyers are advised to "stay tuned" for price changes.
Recent rumors suggest the PlayBook 2.0 OS may arrive as early as next week, though Mobile World Congress at the end of the month is also viewed as a possibility.
