iPad 3 pixels seen 4X as dense

A rare, direct hands-on with what's believed to be a leaked iPad 3 display may have confirmed its 2048x1536 resolution. The MacRumors investigation went beyond surface checks to show that the pixel density was exactly four times higher than on the iPad 2 while keeping the 9.7-inch size. As expected, the display couldn't be powered up to show the effect, although at 264 pixels per inch it could appear near-seamless.

The higher resolution by extension would support some of the new A6 chip. Multiple tips have also referenced a thicker design that could be necessary for stronger LED backlighting to maintain brightness with much smaller pixels.

While Apple hasn't said anything about the iPad 3's features, code inside iOS 5 has included much larger art assets than usual for the iPad in much the same way as the iPhone 4 needed larger art for its higher resolution.

    This one..

    goes up to 11.

Who knows it this particular story is for real, but the hubbub is fun. I wonder if there's be a hi-def killer app, or a feature like Siri was for the 4s.

    Not "Retina Display"

At 264 pixels per inch, it can not be called "Retina Display".
So why MacRumors keep calling it "Retina Display"?
Electronista is right by not calling it "Retina Display".

Certain Apple employee was adamant by sating "the next iPad will not have Retina Display."
