Top end Onkyo features THX

Onkyo has announced its 2012 line-up of mid-range audio/video receivers. The upper-end TX-NR616 and TX-NR515 support 7.2 surround sound, while the TX-NR414 and TX-SR313 are 5.1-channel receivers. All four provide a front-panel USB port to connect to an iPod, iPhone, or external storage like a flash drive.

All four receivers use Wide Range Amplifier Technology (WRAT), which Onkyo claims reduces signal noise and minimizes distortion. All except the TX-SR313 sport Onkyo's InstaPrevue on-screen video thumbnails of the content currently available on components connected using HDMI. The three offer an Ethernet port to get online for media sharing.

In addition to providing surround sound, both the TX-NR616 and TX-NR515 Marvell's Qdeo analog video upscaling. The TX-NR616 integrates THX-rated sound quality.

The TX-SR313, TX-NR414 and TX-NR515, priced respectively at $299, $499, and $599. will begin shipping next month. The top of the range TX-NR616, priced at $699 will be available in April.
