   I agree - methodology?

   I'm in IT support and have had roughly 25 of the Lenovo ThinkPad 500 and 510 series laptops and I've had a failure rate of close to 50% on drives and various other components. Lenovo pretty much shrugged their shoulders and offered as little assistance as they possibly could. Apple's products? I'll get back to you when we send one back in and we have easily twice as many of them company wide.

   Deduction

   They're probably testing how well each computer manufacturer can run Windows. Boot Camp can be pretty unstable sometimes... But if they're ranking native OS vs. native OS, then there is no way any PC maker will keep up with Apple and Mac OS X.

   We need info or it is all BS. Based on the apparent volatility I would almost guarantee poor methodology.
   
   The bummer is that sites like this one, trade associations, other media, etc. all thrive on reprinting such garbage, INTENTIONALLY not vetting the reliability of data or methodology.

   Lenovo Thinkpads are fragile

   Their cases are made of fragile rigid plastic that can crack fairly easily. I speak from recent experience at work.

   Questionable

   It's hypothetically possible that recent Macs really are less reliable, but given that this is a 3rd party repair company and Apple has such a strong network of repair facilities I'm very skeptical that their methodology is going to be even remotely accurate.
   
   Phrased differently, if their data comes from the stuff THEY repair (which it presumably does), how on earth are they factoring in the Genius bar? (And I note that if anything that should theoretically skew things in favor of Apple, since more people will take their broken Mac to Apple instead of Rescuecom.)
   
   They should be seeing almost zero repairs from any manufacturer in the first year, no matter how unreliable they are, since most factory warranties are that long. And if--hypothetically--75% of Apple customers bought Applecare and only 10% of HP customers sprung for the extended warranty, and every single customer with a broken computer not under warranty went to them (which isn't the case--I've never even heard of these guys other than past news articles like this) then even if Macs were drastically less reliable they should look great for the first three years.
   
   Point being that the data is generally flawed unless they've got some good statistics to back up why they're broadly relevant, and when only one of the companies in question has a huge national network of VERY high-profile repair facilities, it's going to hugely skew the results.

   Very Questionable

   For all the above reasons. As much as I like MacNN articles like this I think are very poorly thought out. Especially statistics based research that is self fulfilling. If everybody bought apple products this company could very well go out of business? That is also an unproven statistic.

   Looking at the website

   there is no mention of how the data is collected and sorted or even what the raw numbers are. They may just get a call from Apple's lawyers if this makes enough noise.
   
   And it's a bit odd that an Apple fan site wouldn't vet things or frame the information a little better.

   Lenovo?! Seriously?!

   I worked at a large, prestigious financial institution a few years ago that gave me Lenovo laptops. 5 of them. In 4 months. Broken fan. Broken Display(x2). Broken NIC card. Finally 1 that actually worked... when it was docked. The battery was flakey and would lose power in 1 hour... even after I got a new battery... but I was tired of getting new laptops, so I just stuck with it.
   
   I have a MacBook Pro that I bought BEFORE I started working there, and I still use it every day. I'm thinking about upgrading to a new one... but this one works so well that I just can't justify it.

   What's wrong with this picture?

   Wow, what a sensationalist, link-baiting headline. Why not talk about the leaders, instead of singling out a 4th-place finisher? Sounds mighty fishy.
   
   My personal experience, with 9 Macs, 8 iPhones and one iPad, including five 2011 models, suggests that if the Lenovos are indeed more reliable, they must be virtually flawless. Funny thing is, user comments don't corroborate this assertion--at all.
   
   Somebody had better produce some credible data (as in, couldn't have been fudged) to back this article up if they expect to be believed.

   Some of the writing at electronista is really starting to bug me.
   
   If you say "just" then you would probably add the phrase "a few," rather than saying, "several."
   
   'Just' implies it's close or barely. Several implies that three+ is a lot, as in, he had several tumors. 'Few' implies that three+ is not very many, as in, I have a few bucks left.
   
   "Samsung has risen to the third spot with a score that is just several points above Apple"—just sounds wrong!
