Samsung looks to target lucrative education market

Samsung has introduced a new platform to support its Galaxy Tab 10.1 and 8.9 dubbed Learning Hub. The fresh service looks set to counter Apple’s renewed emphasis on iTunes U and will offer users educational content including 6,000 textbooks and video titles from 30 different education service providers. The company has only revealed some screenshots so far, but more information about its availability and any charges are expected to be revealed at the World Mobile Congress.

The Learning Hub aims to offer an interactive learning experience and to encourage self-learning by including an automatic scoring system as motivation. It will also offer note correction and the ability to annotate documents – whether this feature could draw on something similar to the S-Pen of the Galaxy Note has not been revealed at this time.

Targeting university and high school students through offering a learning content service has helped Apple gain a strong foothold in schools. Schools have purchased iPads for its iTunes U and many other capabilities, helping to drive records sales of Apple’s halo product. Further, iPads are also very popular with students of all ages and are used for taking notes and content creation activities including word processing, music making, visual design and photo and video editing.

The introduction of the Samsung Learning Hub suggests that the Korean company is looking towards its Galaxy Tabs to gain a foothold in the education sector and increase its addressable audience.

    How many years?

How long will they try to support this service before realizing that it's a money drain and just leave the service become defunct. Copying a service won't work.
