Mozilla to begin accepting developer submissions at MWC

Mozilla Marketplace to use HTML5, custom API apps
Mozilla revealed on Wednesday that it will begin accepting web app submissions at MWC next week. The web apps will be based on HTML5 and some Mozilla-proposed APIs, and work in both the company's Firefox browser as well as platforms that support HTML5. Mozilla promises to give developers easy development, direct user feedback, and allow for flexible billing
The organization is also touting a "write once, deploy everywhere" nature that will reduce costs of the initial creation, maintenance, and various versions of each app.
The Mozilla Web Apps platform will include the Mozilla Marketplace, where apps will be system- and device-independent. They will also use open web technologies such as HTML5, JavaScript, and CSS. The new Mozilla APIs will be submitted to the W3C for standardization. Finally, apps will be tied to the user and not a device or platform thanks to a new identity system.
The Mozilla Marketplace will go live for end users later this year and offer games, media, music, productivity apps, and more. Depending on exactly when it launches, it will be about a year behind Google's Chrome Web Store.
