ASUS outs official bootloader unlock for Transformer Prime

updated 01:55 pm EST, Wed February 22, 2012

Official ASUS Transformer Prime unlock now out

ASUS has released the promised official bootloader unlock for its Transformer Prime tablet. It took the company nearly two months to do so, but is still one of the few to allow bootloader unlocks on tablets. The APK file can be downloaded from ASUS' support site, though ASUS warns of some consequences.

Users who apply the unlock will void their warranties, and the software is compatible only with tablets running on Android 4.0. ASUS also washes its hands of any responsibility for any performance degradations as a result of the unlock. It further urges that only experienced users or developers apply the unlock.

Before, ASUS claimed the lock was needed to retain Google's copy protection and allow the operation of its YouTube-based movie service. Whether copy protected YouTube content continues to work after this root is applied isn't known. [via Droid-Life]
