Red Carpet Droid RAZR MAXX comes with Oscars

Keeping up its tradition of giving out a smartphone connected to the Oscars, Motorola on Wednesday showed a special Red Carpet edition of the Droid RAZR MAXX. The new version comes in its namesake red, a color previously only available to a handful of Verizon staff. Their version is identical to the dual-core, large battery Android 2.3 device on the inside, but comes with an Elite Silver Bluetooth headset.

The rare run is primarily being given out to a handful of Oscar nominees and presenters with different extras, such as a gold-sequined carrying pouch for the Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress candidates as well as a shaving kit for the Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor nominees.

Unlike past years, however, non-celebrities will have a chance at getting one. A giveaway through Motorola's Twitter account will hand out a small number of Red Carpet editions to those who retweet messages with the #RedCarpetRAZR hashtag. Its contest starts Thursday.
