Netflix isn't planning on making BlackBerry app

Netflix has no plans to build a streaming app for the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet or BlackBerry smartphones, the company revealed in a Twitter response. The company already provides a streaming app for iOS and Android platforms, however. No reason was given for this, leaving many to wonder why this was the case.

One possible reason is that the effort is too great, as BlackBerry handsets usually have smaller screens than iOS and Android devices due to the inclusion of a QWERTY keyboard. The PlayBook and its 7-inch screen is arguably the only BlackBerry device that would be suitable for video watching, though the effort of developing an app for the OS for the one device may be deemed too great by the company.

RIM this week released OS 2.0 software for the PlayBook, which makes it easier for app makers to move their current Android apps to the tablet. Whether the Netflix for Android app will officially or otherwise be made to work on the PlayBook remains to be seen.
