Dual-mode streaming from smartphones

HTC has introduced a wireless streaming adapter, the Media Link HD, and a car stereo accessory that are designed to work with the company's latest smartphones. The device, which received a quick mention at HTC's press conference at Mobile World Congress, enables users to stream video directly from their handset to a TV or other display without using an HDMI cable.

The adapter provides dual-display functionality, which supports video streaming from the phone to the external display while a user is viewing other content on the phone itself. Simple three-finger swipe gestures can be used to send photos or videos to the display.

The stereo clip allows users to connect the phone to a vehicle's audio system. The accessory enables any audio to be sent through a car stereo, including Internet radio stations or locally stored music.

HTC has yet to announce pricing information or launch dates for the HD streaming adapter or the car clip. It remains unclear if the HD adapter will work with a broad range of the company's smartphones, or just the three models in the new One series.
