AMD adds two FX processors, cracks 4GHz

AMD's fastest processor without turbo


AMD has released two high-performance members to its FX lineup of bulldozer multi-core architecture processors for desktops. The new FX-4170 uses four cores to produce a base speed of 4.2GHz and a turbo speed of turbo-speed of 4.3GHz. The six core FX-6200 has a baseline of 3.8GHz with a top speed of 4.1GHz.

Both processors fit in an AM3+ socket and consume 125 watts of power. The FX-4170 is AMD's first desktop processor to clock in at over 4GHz under normal conditions. AMD has not disclosed pricing for the two processors. The company will be shipping the products on a staggered schedule in different areas.
