HTC reaffirms support for Windows Phone
While HTC has used Mobile World Congress to unveil its next-generation Android smartphones, it confirmed to Pocket-lint that it has firm plans to continue releasing handsets designed to run Windows Phone Apollo when the new OS ships later this year. HTCs chief product officer Kouji Kodera said that company had not decided on branding when asked whether an HTC Windows Phone 8 smartphone could ship under the company’s new HTC One range headlined by the quad-core One X.
‘For Windows Phone we haven't decided on the branding yet, but you will see a new range of Windows Phones from us when Microsoft release their new Apollo operating system,’ said Kodera. Kodera also took the opportunity to confirm that the company’s Titan II Windows Phone 7.5 device will soon start shipping outside the US to countries with established LTE networks.
Windows Phone 8 will support multi-core processors for the first time, allowing manufacturers to better differentiate their devices and specs. It will also introduce support for NFC for the first time as well as better support for microSD cards. It will also be better aligned with Windows 8, allowing a developer to more easily port a Metro-based Windows 8 app across to Windows Phone 8.
