Hands on: ZTE PF112 Android 4.0 handset with Tegra 3

Another quad-core phone at MWC

Yesterday we took a look at most of ZTE's new smartphones for 2012, and we stopped by the company's booth again to check out the PF112. The device is one of many Tegra 3-powered smartphones that have been brought to Barcelona this week, marking ZTE's attempt to establish itself in the mid- to high-end smartphone market.

The PF112 battery was dead by the time we got around to trying it out, but we expect the user experience to be similar to most of the other Tegra 3 models. We found all of the quad-core phones and tablets to be extremely fast.

The PF112 appears to take some design elements from the Galaxy Nexus, and both share a 1280x720 display for native HD. The PF112 uses a standard LCD rather than the Nexus' AMOLED panel, however, and the build quality of ZTE's handset does not feel nearly as solid. We were surprised to find that all of the ZTE handsets we tried this week may offer attractive specs, but they all seem to maintain a cheap feel.

The PF112 is expected to be renamed before it lands on store shelves later this year, though a price tag and specific launch date have yet to be announced.
