Leaked iPad 3 shell measured at 0.81mm thicker than iPad 2

Still thinner than iPad 1

A new photo depicts the iPad 3's shell as being 0.81mm thicker than that of the iPad 2, according to Apple.pro. In the image, both tablets are being measured using digital calipers. The iPad 2 registers at 8.69mm, while the iPad 3 is a straight 9.5mm. Apple's official specifications list the iPad 2's thickness as 8.8mm.

The image would appear to support other reports that the iPad 3 is somewhat larger. If real, the difference represents a rare backtracking on size for Apple, which is normally focused on making products thinner and lighter. Either way the device should be thinner than the iPad 1, which was 13.4mm and often criticized as too heavy to hold for extended amounts of time.

Apple today announced an iPad event for March 7th. The one confirmed fact of the new hardware is that it will use a much higher-resolution display, similar in pixel density to the screens used on the iPhone 4S and the iPod touch. Extra thickness may be needed to accommodate this and rumored features, such as LTE, better cameras, and a quad-core processor.

It's a good thing that your readers know what you meant to write rather than what you actually wrote: for 86.9 mm read 8.69 mm and for 95 mm read 9.5 mm.

    who has actual iPad3?

It's also a bit funny that Apple.pro is measuring a device that hasn't even been officially announced. I wonder where they got a device to measure? Watch out, Apple lawyer's are on the way!!!
