T-Mobile to focus on LTE rather than 84Mbps

T-Mobile will not deploy an HSPA+ 84Mbps network, The Verge learned from the carrier's Andrew Sherrard. Instead, T-Mobile will focus on its recently unveiled LTE plans and continue on with its existing 42Mbps HSPA+ network. The 84Mbps was being readied in some areas late last year.

The carrier will continue to build out its HSPA+ 42Mbps network, however. The decision to do 84Mbps 3G would require re-farming its 1,900MHz spectrum. T-Mobile is already moving away from 2G handsets, committing not to sell any that don't have 3G support. Its network will also transition over to 3G only.
