Facebook launches Messenger for Windows, plans Mac app

Facebook Messenger for Windows now official
Facebook brought out its first proper desktop app Monday by posting Messenger for Windows. The minimalist title lets PC users keep track of conversations without having to keep a browser tab open and risk missing notifications. When not immediately involved in chat, it provides a light version of the Facebook ticker's stream of updates.
In step with the nature of the platform, messages sent on one platform will reach all others, much like BlackBerry Messenger or iMessage.
The company didn't say when it might expand to other platforms. It has promised that a Mac version is in progress, but it hasn't commented on whether it will go any further in platform support.
