Rumors tip two Nokia WP8 phones coming to US

Rumors of the axed Nokia Om were joined Tuesday by claims of two models destined for AT&T. At the top, the Prodigy (possibly named after the UK big beat group) identified by The Verge would be a high-end Windows Phone 8 (Apollo) device that would lead the new OS on the American carrier. A second, AC/DC, would be a mid-range device.

Details of either were sparing, although the future OS' spec is known through Microsoft's own remarks to include multi-core and NFC wireless support that would at least make it to the Prodigy. Carrier details were also sparing outside of AT&T, although Microsoft is believed to be testing dual-core Snapdragon processors for a Sprint phone.

HTC as expected would be contributing as well, extra tipsters said, and would have high-profile phones for AT&T, Sprint, and Verizon. It has typically tackled both the very high end with phones like the Titan II as well as budget models.

Other Windows Phone partners are expected to return but haven't made their appearances so far, such as from Samsung and LG.
