HTC One X gets 'Superboot' root from MoDaCo

The HTC One X is back in the news again, this time because the handset has been rooted before it is even available for sale. The root came courtesy of ROM developer Paul O'Brien. His so-called 'superboot' root works over a USB connection, and is a desktop script file.

Users simply need to put their future One X handsets into bootloader mode and run the script on Windows-, OS X-, or Linux-powered desktops. This makes it easier than the manual root that's available for other locked Android handsets but harder than some of the one-click options on offer.

The bootloader of the HTC One X remains locked, however, and O'Brien's method doesn't apply. What is needed is an S-OFF bootloader or another unlocked bootloader from HTCdev to be on the phone first.

The quad-core phone is expected to arrive in the UK and likely the rest of Europe in Europe, with a US release through AT&T due sometime this summer. [via AndroidCommunity]
