LG L7 may get cheap option at Rogers

LG's L7 style smartphone should make at least one appearance in North America through Rogers. The company's Canadian division told MobileSyrup it expects the largest of the L-Style line to show sometime this year. The Android 4.0 hardware may arrive in the carrier's Smartphone Lite tier, which would let users skip a data plan and pay only for when they need it.

Apart from being one of the few new phones so far this year to run the new Android build, it also has unusually aggressive features for what's intended as a budget phone. A 4.3-inch screen, a 1GHz if single-core processor, and a five-megapixel rear camera give it features that would have been considered high-end just a year earlier. Part of its emphasis is style, with both an 8.7mm thick body and a textured back.

We tried the L7 at Mobile World Congress last week and found it slow, although it remains to be seen if the phone will get any optimizations before it ships. If its speed improves, it could be one of the more capable entry-level Android devices in stores.
