HTC prepping to release entry-level Golf handset

An upcoming entry-level handset from HTC, codenamed the Golf, has been outed by a test photo taken by its three-megapixel camera. Found by PocketNow, the image's EXIF data and other sources reveal the handset will ship with Android 4.0 onboard. The hardware specs are said to include a CPU with a clock speed of less than 1GHz and a 3.5-inch display with a 320x240 resolution.

The device would be a significant improvement the company's current budget offering, the Wildfire S. While the 4GB of integrated storage space and microSD memory card slot would be the same, the bigger screen (up from 3.2 inches) and possible faster processor (up from 600MHz) would make it more usable. A 7.2Mbps HSDPA radio may be onboard as well to give it comparable 3G.

The handset should arrive this spring in a number of available colors, likely under a different name.
