T-Mobile joins the Rural Cellular Association
T-Mobile USA has become the latest major carrier to join the Rural Cellular Association. The RCA is devoted to represent the interests of carriers that have less than 10 million subscribers, though those with more, such as T-Mobile, can be affiliate members. Sprint joined the RCA last year.
The RCA and its members also aim to make the FCC require that larger carriers let smaller ones use their networks in remote areas for data roaming. It thus opposes the CTIA, AT&T, and Verizon, who don't agree with the move.
The RCA also keeps the FCC in check when it comes to approving deals such as Verizon's buy of AWS spectrum. T-Mobile on its own was against the Verizon spectrum buy. [via FierceWireless]
