Apple details new iPad launch beyond first batch
Apple in its customary pre-launch details both confirmed a launch time for the new iPad and outlined the next wave of countries after the initial March 16 date. True to recent leaks, the first 10 countries will start selling the new tablet at retail at 8AM through at least Apple stores. Best Buy, RadioShack, Sam's Club, Target, and Walmart will also have the iPad, although some of these are likely to open later.
A second group of 25 countries will get the iPad one week later, on March 23. Most of these are in Europe. The full mix includes Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Macau, Mexico, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Sweden.
The strategy will see 35 countries with access inside of one week, supporting Apple's claims of having one of its fastest launches ever. Some large countries are conspicuously absent and will have to wait for later, such as Brazil, China, and Russia.
