Jonathan Ive to attend state dinner at the White House

updated 09:30 pm EDT, Wed March 14, 2012

Part of a 'Brit Pack' of guests to honor Cameron

Sir Jonathan Ive, Apple's senior VP of Industrial Design, will be attended a White House state dinner this evening in honor of British Prime Minister David Cameron's visit to the US, but he and Cameron will not be the only UK citizens at the affair -- the Obama adminstration has invited a clutch of notable British names to also attend, including actor Hugh Bonneville from Downton Abbey, which the President is said to be a fan of; golfer Rory McIlroy; Sir Richard Branson, and UK rock band Mumford & Sons, which the Prime Minister is said to enjoy.

Also included in the dinner is UK actor Damian Lewis, who stars in the political TV drama Homeland in which he plays an American marine who reappears after going missing in Iraq eight years earlier and who may or may not himself be a terrorist. UK artist Tracey Erin turned down the invitation to come to Washington for the occasion, presumably as a protest against Cameron, whose policies have so far not found much favor with the British public but who has continued the strong relationship between the US and the UK.

Mumford & Sons, along with US entertainer John Legend are scheduled to perform. Other notable guests include actor George Clooney and billionaire Warren Buffet, as well as New Orleans-based actor Wendell Pierce. The menu is said to include bison Wellington; halibut on braised baby kale, the latter of which came from the White House garden, and salad also made from the garden. Dessert is said to be a steamed lemon pudding, a traditional English treat. Unusually, the dinner will be held outdoors on the lawn of the White House under a tent rather than indoors.

Someone named "John Scully" from San Francisco also made the guest list. Was Gil Amelio unavailable?
