App Store, Infinity Blade now ultra high res

Last-minute prep for the new iPad's North American launch has seen Apple create a new sub-section (App Store) for the new iPad. The new sub-section, just known as "Great Apps for the new iPad," currently includes about two dozen apps optimized for the new iPad's much higher-resolution screen. Among the examples are Flight Control Rocket, Sketchbook Pro, and Tweetbot.

One of these is Epic and Chair's technology showcase game Infinity Blade II ($7, App Store). An update just going live Thursday night has brought it high-resolution video to take advantage of the new tablet. Despite the much higher pixel output, it keeps all the visual effects, such as light beams, intact.

Significantly more apps have had Retina updates than are featured in the new section, such as the Amazon Kindle and Evernote apps as well as The Daily. Many more are expected in the next few weeks as developers who needed longer development cycles finish their updates.
