Eventbrite At The Door uses iPad reader to handle tickets

Eventbrite At The Door gets iPad card reader

Eventbrite on Tuesday adapted the basic concept of mobile payment reading formed by Square to the event formula with new hardware for At The Door. The platform lets those with a new card reader for the iPad to take credit card payments for concerts, plays, and other events on the spot. While familiar, an optional printer from Star lets the event host print tickets on the spot if they have a power source and an Ethernet link.

Event operators can track the revenue of different ticket tiers from within the app. Again similar to Square and its parallels, Eventbrite is relying on a per-payment cut to make its profit, but is using this as a possible advantage over traditionally steep fees. Rather than apply a service charge, it's at least temporarily limiting its share to a flat three percent of each sale.

Transactions should be secure, since all the encryption for credit cards is handled through the Dock Connector-based reader and not in the app or the network.

Each reader costs $10 but includes a matching credit to an Eventbrite account. No mention has been made of an Android port. The printer costs $298.

    Looks good...but not too flexible

I'm sure not all event organizers are using iPads or even fond of it. I for one do not like an iPad so in this regard I would say it does not provide the kind of flexibility that event organizers - and other entrepreneurs are looking for in a mobile payment system. I am personally looking forward to the launch of mPowa - www.mpowa.com. It's available for all iOS mobile devices and Android devices, namely iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, Android phones, and Android tablets.
