China tops US in iOS, Android activations for first time

Chinese app use accelerating

China has beaten the US for the first time in terms of new iOS and Android device activations, says mobile ad and analysis firm Flurry. February data collected by Flurry shows China barely topping the US. For March, though, Flurry is predicting that China will represent 24 percent of activations, versus the US' forecast 21 percent. Back in January 2011 the US accounted for 28 percent, easily dominating China's 8 percent.

China's install base is said to be twice as big as the UK's. Flurry notes, though, that the US is "a more mature market," with over twice the number of active devices found in China.

The latter country is also seeing the fastest growth of any region in terms of app sessions. Between Q1 2011 and Q1 2012 China leaped ahead 1,126 percent, eclipsing its closest competitor Argentina, which rose 599 percent. "China's growth rate is particularly staggering given that it was already the world's 7th largest country in terms of app sessions by the end of Q1 2011. This speaks to the country's sheer population as well as increasing affluence among a meaningful part of its population," Flurry writes.

    Where the numbers come from?

No android player gives their numbers and Apple doesnt split their world wide numbers. So this is all speculation.
