Sony Xperia S now shipping worldwide

Sony has just revealed that its PlayStation-certified Xperia S smartphone has begin shipping across the world on Wednesday. Local retailers and providers will soon get all the pricing and information for the device, which runs on Android 2.3. An update to Android 4.0 is promised for later this spring.

Significant hardware specs for Sony's flagship bring a 4.3-inch, 720x1280 touchscreen, a 1.5GHz, dual-core Qualcomm processor paired with 1GB of RAM, and a 12.1-megapixel rear camera with 16x digital zoom and LED flash. The phone will offer 32GB of onboard storage as well. Onboard radios include NFC along with the usual wireless. There is also an HDMI output and a 1.3-megapixel, front-facing camera.

The Xperia S will be available in black and white, though pricing isn't yet known. North America may get the phone, although there haven't been immediate commitments.
