Angry Birds Space ready for download

[Update: live across platforms] The latest title in the hugely popular Angry Birds franchise, Angry Birds Space is now live on the iTunes App Store. The standard version ($0.99, iTunes) of the app will run on compatible iPhones, iPads and iPod touchs, while Rovio has also released an HD version ($2.99, iTunes) for the iPad only. Highlighting just how big Rovio have made it with its Angry Birds titles, the company teamed up with NASA to promote the launch of the new game.

In addition to using gravity, Rovio have built on the original game’s physics and play with both weightlessness and gravity this time around. Among the new gaming attractions, users will be able to use different types of gravity pulls, arcing around various space borne objects.

As with each of the subsequent titles in the series, there are new birds to experiment with as well as bonus levels hidden throughout the game. One levels of even taps into the social issue of cyberbullying. Users are also offered a range of new in-app purchases, which includes 30 levels included as part of the DANGER ZONE add-on. These are said by Roxio to be the most challenging it has yet created.

Angry Birds Space is also now live across multiple platforms including the Mac App Store, Windows, Google Play (Android), and Amazon (Android). Notably absent from the list is an app for Windows Phone 7 devices and the BlackBerry PlayBook.

    Universal?

From the iOS App Programming Guide:

"A universal app is a single app that is optimized for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad devices."

The $0.99 version is optimized for iPhone/iPod touch only. While compatible with the iPad, it is not optimized for play on the iPad's larger screen. Universal apps can be identified by a '+' in the iTunes App Store.

    Seriously?

"One levels of even taps into the social issue of cyberbullying"

That's the lone reason I will not buy this game.

I don't want my apps to get involved in anything like this - it's supposed to be a game.

    Stay out of social commentary.
