Nokia N9 hacked to run on Android 4.0.3

NITDroid Development forum member e-yes has just shared a custom ROM of Android 4.0.3 for Nokia's N9. Dubbed Project Mayhem, the hack lets users choose which OS they want to boot into after powering the phone up. The handset usually runs on MeeGo, and many of the key functions are retained when running Anroid.

This includes 3D drivers and OpenGL, as well as multitouch functionality. The hardware home and power buttons also work, as do headset buttons. Video decoding and playback is supported, though YouTube videos are said to be choppy out of a lack of hardware acceleration.

The phone's voice, text, and data functions also stay, and Bluetooth will pair with devices. The phone will also charge, but users won't see an on-screen notification of this.

The full instructions on how to perform the same modification to a user's own handset are in the post as well. [image via Steve Troughton-Smith]
