iOS 5.1 code shows references to LTE phone calls, FaceTime

OS prepped for fifth-generation iPhone

Strings in the iOS 5.1 firmware make reference to 4G phone calling, and using FaceTime over 4G, notes Cydia developer Krishna Sagar. One message in the code reads, "Enabling 4G will end your phone call. Are you sure you want to enable 4G?" Others refer to enabling and disabling 4G on FaceTime calls, as well as regular voice ones.

The code appears to back up regular reports that Apple is working on an LTE iPhone. More unusual is the reference to FaceTime, since even LTE-equipped iPads are still unable to make FaceTime calls over cellular networks. The restriction is typically blamed on wireless carriers, who are likely worried about bandwidth congestion as well as people opting out of higher-tier voice plans.

    4G? Really?

Re: "Are you sure you want to enable 4G?"

That could be a reference to the HSPA+ network that those drooling morons at AT&T are now calling "4G." Like they think they can fool us.

    Re: 4G?

Because those people at ATT know 4G is just a stupid marketing name, anyway, and doesn't mean anything to anyone except some geek heads who think it implies a specific set of technologies or something.

And, you think you all would love it, since you love Apple's simple naming schemes. 4G is faster than 3G which is faster than 2G, etc. You want them to name it like Dell names a PC? It's "3G-HSPA+ 20m"
