Offers no hint of specific ship dae or pricing

On Wednesday, Sony announced that it would begin shipping its Xperia S smartphone worldwide. It now appears that the first North American carrier to get the device will be the Canadian provider Rogers. Although it has not given any specific date, Rogers has posted a teaser on its site advising its customers that the phone will be "Coming Soon."

The Xperia S is Sony's newest flagship Android phone. It will initially ship with Android 2.3.7 with a promised upgrade to Android 4.0. It incorporates a 4.3-inch, 720p screen with a 1.5GHz Qualcomm dual-core Snapdragon S3 processor. The main camera is Sony's best, carrying a 12-megapixel sensor with 1080p video recording and a 16x digital zoom. The phone also has NFC on-board. For positioning, the Xperia S will support both GPS and the Russia-made GLONASS. A unique feature of the smartphone is its ability to run PlayStation Suite games, which will be available through the phone's own dedicated store.

Rogers has provided no pricing information on the Xperia S. [via MobileSyrup]
