TiVo Premiere DVR inline for revamp
TiVo appears to have quietly prepped a new expanded capacity version of its TiVo Premiere DVR line. Two years after its initial release, a new 500GB edition has been spotted on Amazon for pre-order. The new model carries the designation TCD746500 TiVo Premiere and is priced at $149, which is a substantial price rise over what may be the superseded 320GB model that can still be picked up for as little as $80.
The new TiVo model has yet to be announced by TiVo itself, possibly as it seeks to clear existing inventory before making any official announcement. According to Amazon, it expects to shipping times of between 2 to 5 weeks for pre-orders placed now.
As technical specifications are not available at this time, the only quantifiable change is the increase in capacity. However, the price hike could also signify a revamp of the TiVo Premiere motherboard, following in the footsteps of the revamped Elite model that received an internal rework. [via Engadget]
