Google Voice in talks for integration beyond Sprint

Google Voice may break Sprint exclusive

Google Voice's integration with Sprint could extend to other carriers soon, Group Product Manager Vincent Paquet said Monday. He explained to CNET that Google was "having discussions with other carriers." Which carriers, and how close Google was to landing deals, weren't mentioned.

The integration was unveiled a year ago as an at least temporary advantage for Sprint. Android and later iPhone users could make their Sprint phone numbers their Google Voice numbers and use Google Voice's voicemail system. Along with making it easier to take phone calls from many devices, it enabled extras like automatically transcripted messages.

Integration isn't absolutely necessary for Android 4.0 users, who can now see Google Voice messages in the call log, but it would let those with Android, iOS, and other platforms with at least some kind of Google Voice support get a closer link than in the past.
