HTCSense cloud storage to go through reset
HTC posted a warning on Monday to its smartphone users that HTCSense.com was undergoing major changes. As part of a "renovation" to upgrade the service, all previous services would be shut down and their calendars, call histories, contacts, Footprints travel info, and messages wiped. Users had no later than April 30 to download a backup file.
Those who wanted phone finding and cloud backup apps were steered towards third-party apps. HTC didn't say when the HTCSense website would have its new services, or which if any existing features would persist in the new version.
HTC developed the site as a rough counterpart to both Google's usual cloud services for Android owners and as a parallel to Apple's MobileMe before it transformed into iCloud. The switchover is likely necessary as Sense 4.0 on Android phones like the One X, One S, and One V is considerably stripped back to remove clutter and improve the overall experience. While faster and leaner, it has also meant dropping some of the services that HTC had attached to Sense over the years.
