LG to cost just about $7,900 when it launches

The flagship 55-inch OLED TV from LG we checked out at CES will cost 9 million Korean Won (about $7,900) when it launches sometime this summer, the Maeil Economic Daily learned. The 55EM9600 should be shown off one more time at the Cannes Film Festival in May, and this would also likely coincide with the TV's commercial release date. It should come before Samsung's similar 55-inch set, and is due for release sometime near the London Olympics.

Not much is known about the set in terms of specs, though subjectively, in-person, the set's performance and design were exceptional. It will be 3D-capable as well, while sporting an 0.16-inch thickness and 16.5-pound weight.

LG Display can produce 48,000 OLED TV panels per month at its eighth-generation production line. It should decide on whether it needs to increase capacity by July.
