Wi-Fi and 3G Kindle versions to ship April 27

In February, Amazon began shipping a special international Wi-Fi version of the Kindle Touch from its US operations to several foreign countries. At the time, the online retailer chose not to make it available at several locales where it had foreign operations, including the UK, Germany, France, Spain, and Italy. Amazon is now taking pre-orders in those countries for both the Wi-Fi and 3G models, with a promised ship date of April 27.

The Kindle Touch is a multi-touch e-reader that incorporates an E Ink grayscale display. It can store up to 3,000 titles and supports text-to-speech, audiobooks and MP3s. Unlike as in the US, European users won't having library borrowing.

Amazon hasn't given any official reason for the lag in availability of the Touch in these countries, although rights clearances are the likely main reasons. The Wi-Fi model is priced at £109 ($174 USD), while the 3G version will sell for £169 ($270 USD) [via BBC News]
