Adobe Photoshop CS6 beta hooks half million users

Less than a week after making a free beta of its high-end photo editing software public, Adobe has announced that it has already served up over 500, 000 downloads of the app. The last time Adobe opened up a free beta of is Photoshop app to the public was ahead of the launch of CS3. However, while the number is impressive, when the title launches before the end of June, it will retail at around $699 for the standard install and $999 for the pro-level Extended iteration.

Users interested in the full desktop version of Adobe's next-generation version of Photoshop, will be able to look forward to better hardware acceleration, video editing migrating down to the standard version, content-aware moving and patching, adaptive wide-angle control and blur controls to tailor effects like tilt-shift. All these functions are enabled in the fully functional beta release, while Adobe also welcomes user feedback.

Adobe has also enjoyed success with the recent launch of its Photoshop Touch for Android and iOS at just $10 – while not offering a pro-level replacement, the mobile version of Photoshop remains surprisingly powerful and offers better ‘bang for your buck’ than Adobe’s desktop release.

To download the free beta of Adobe Photoshop CS6, which continues to be freely available for both Mac and PC, users will need to have an Adobe ID.

    Exactly!

Free is free...don't expect even half of these downloaders to purchase Photoshop 6.

But being able to test PS6's changes and performance before its launch will help determine whether paying $700 or even $300 for the upgrade is worth it...which is only slightly better than waiting another 2 months later for the Trial version.
